The OMT team is planning a service fair during one Sunday in March. The goal of this effort is to bring as many volunteer organizations as possible to Sunset and challenge the congregation to find new ways to volunteer their energy, time, and spirit through one or more of these groups.
The organizations range across the spectrum, from nascent home-grown ministries, such as the new Healthcare Ministry being formed by Christine Hill, to established groups, such as Northwest Medical Teams. A full list of groups will be determined this week and posted here.
Here is the text of my initial draft communication to be sent out to the organizations:
Greetings
As Sunset continues its push to become increasingly relevant and engaged with the greater community and beyond, it will be hosting a volunteer fair on [insert date] immediately following the Sunday worship services.
Sunset’s leadership and outreach team is encouraging the church attendees and members to contribute time, energy, and passion in new and meaningful ways. To further this goal I would like to graciously extend an invitation to you and your organization join us on this day to provide opportunities for the body of Sunset to reach out and positively impact the world community.
The idea is for each group to have a representative at the church for the period of time between the two services (9:00 and 11:00 are the service times), and after the second service to answer questions, provide information, guidance, and volunteer opportunities.
Ideally, each group would receive a flock of new volunteers and the unending energy they could bring. But as we’ve discovered, one of the primary reasons that limit the amount of time and energy of potential volunteers is the concern, whether real or imagined, that if they jump into the ring, so to speak, their time will be drained away to an extent beyond their comfort zone. To alleviate this concern, we’re asking each group to think of ways that new volunteers can join the effort without an extended commitment. The idea is make available a wide range of volunteer opportunities and allow people to find the right fit for their concerns, aptitude, and spiritual gifts.
Sunset has a large gymnasium area available and plenty of room for each group to setup a booth or table. We will provide time prior to the start of the fair in order to allow for any setup time and needs you might have. If this sounds like something you and your group would like to participate in, please respond to this email as soon as possible. Again, we’re aiming at launching this event sometime during the month of March, during Sunday services when hundreds of potential new volunteers will be on site, motivated to serve in the Lords name, and ready to provide new energy and the tremendous spiritual gifts found at Sunset.
We look forward to hearing from you and we will contact you soon.
Stay tuned
